becoming socially inept

ummm... i think i have a very silly/socially destructive addiction to the internet and especially to aim. actually, i'm pretty infrequently "on" aim but am usually armed with some intricate "away" message. this is the thing i'm most addicted to. I love writing and presenting to EVERYONE, my every plan of the day. And i love to update and refresh these messages frequently. Ussualy, I write these notes with encrypted meanings that are definitely meant for selected people and usually they know who they are. But it's so weird that I will gleefully express myself over aim but HATE HATE HATE the phone, a more sincere form of communication. And this is really bad. There are some relationships that I really want to foster and improve that need to be weaned off aim and email and pushed forth into a more realistic world. Yes, some relationships, more casual ones especially are well taken care of over aim, but more romantic ones are being killed by it. it's too bad I'm such an awkward person and get so nervous talking to certain people. Weirdly though I'm not AS awkward with these people in person. Then i'm chatty and comfortable but very physically (not sexually necessarily!) involved. but on the phone, i'm at a loss to words. I often write down topics of discussion or specific questions i want to ask before I make a call; if i know i'll most likely be leaving a message... i might write or outline it beforehand.

i have problems on the phone too. but doing really mundane stuff, like calling to order food or confirm stuff. i have to go over what i'm going to say a million times in my head, and if someone else is there i ask them what i'm supposed to say.

this happens in real life too, like if i go to the bank, or the post office, or a fastfood joint.

some people say that it's me being immature and i need to grow up.
but those people are fucking more immature than me.

oh my god. people say you're immature for that?! a)that's rude and b)it's not like these service people matter to you and that's why you're acting this way. that's really lame of them. i'm sorry

I hate the phone...

...AIM is so much better for me, simply because it's a lot more impersonally and you can multitask better... like you can have 5,10, or 15 conversations at the same time... or you could talk to someone on AIM while you check your mail and browse peoples' LJs hehe

but I do agree with the talking in person remarks... I seem to remember us having quite a long conversation at the daily grind about traveling the world... you are fun to talk to in person :D

oh, and if your friend bails on your staying with them, let me know the date and you can almost definately crash at my place (we have a gestroom with a bed bigger than mine... grrr)

also, be sure to give me a call when you're in DC... other people oyu might be interested in seeing in the area: Will (lahue), Perry, Kirk (if he's done with Williamsburg hehe) etc

ps: dont worry about the phone thing... it's things like that that I find really cute in people and increases my interest in them manifold... so if you're aiming to catch the eye of a headcase like me, well, you'll be fine...
